South Wooton
We constructed 298 residential units and 118 garage plots. The planning conditions mandated the installation of a substantial roundabout under S278 works, which was successfully executed through overnight operations. The project encompassed the construction of 3,751m² of adoptable carriageway and 2,007m² of footpaths, along with the installation of new street lighting.
Additionally, we engineered three balancing lagoons to effectively manage drainage runoff. Extensive infrastructure work included laying 13,788m² of adoptable carriageway and 10,606m² of adoptable footpaths across the development site. The project's scope also extended to the installation of two pumping stations and two substations, further enhancing the site's functionality and sustainability.
Our team faced and overcome significant challenges at South Wooton, from managing the high water table to safely constructing critical infrastructure in the public domain. By implementing innovative drainage solutions and precise planning, we’ve ensured the project remains on track, delivering high-quality results that meet both safety standards and client expectations
In navigating the complexities of the South Wooton development, our team's dedication to meticulous planning and proactive risk management was paramount. From the outset, we focused on building a core team of local labour to initially deliver the S278 works and then transition into plot works and road/sewer construction.
We prioritised a strong approach to health and safety, with an emphasis on housekeeping and site presentation. Clear walkways and site signage were implemented to maintain a high standard, significantly reducing onsite incidents and ensuring a seamless operation throughout the construction phase.
Carriageway: 13,788m² of adoptable carriageway constructed.
Drainage: Three balancing lagoons created to manage site drainage and runoff.
Footpaths: 10,606m² of adoptable footpaths installed.
Lighting: New streetlights installed as part of the S278 works.
S278 Works: Large roundabout constructed with 3,751m² of adoptable carriageway and 2,007m² of footpaths.
The extremely high water table across the site made the excavation of drainage particularly challenging. The drainage teams had to adopt the use of large pumps to dewater the areas of works. This proactive approach ensured the site remained safe and dry, preventing delays and maintaining the quality of the drainage installation.
While constructing the roundabout, we had traffic management in place to control the flow of traffic around the workforce. This required considerable planning from site management to ensure the least disruption possible. The success of this traffic management strategy allowed us to maintain productivity while minimising inconvenience to the public and ensuring the safety of both workers and road users.
To install the rising main, we planned to directionally drill under Edward Benefer Way. This was challenging in planning the route for the pipe. The process required careful surveying and collaboration with engineers to ensure accuracy and minimise disruption to the surrounding infrastructure.
Effective management and use of local labour contributed to cost savings and overall project efficiency.
Successfully completed the S278 roundabout project, achieving significant cost savings for the client through strategic planning and efficient resource management.
The site's presentation and management have been positively received by the local community, reflecting the meticulous care and effort invested in the project.
