We’re celebrating a fantastic achievement for our team - two of our apprentices have taken home top honours at the City College Norwich Apprentice Awards 2025.
🏆 Jasmin Oates – Technical Construction Apprentice of the Year 2025
🏆 James Ramsey – Higher Technical Apprentice of the Year 2025
This well-deserved recognition is a reflection of Jasmin and James’s commitment, determination and potential. They’ve embraced every opportunity, brought fresh thinking to their roles, and are already making a positive impact in the industry.
''I'm honoured to be named Technical Construction Apprentice of the Year. This award means a lot and reflects the support I’ve had throughout my apprenticeship journey. Choosing the apprenticeship route was one of my best decisions. It's given me hands-on experience, expert guidance, and real growth. I’m proud to be part of an industry that builds the future and excited for what’s next.''
~ Jasmin Oates
Jasmin’s achievement is a powerful example of where apprenticeships can lead — and the quality of talent emerging through this route.
James also reflected on his award:
''It was a great pleasure to accept this award, which undoubtedly could not have been won without the great support I have behind me at Bateman Groundworks & City College. The support and resources committed to apprentices at Bateman Groundworks is second to none, and I’d like to thank them both for the opportunity''
~ James Ramsey
Their success highlights exactly why we champion apprenticeships. In a sector that urgently needs new talent, they offer a dynamic route into construction - giving individuals the chance to earn, learn, and grow from day one.
We’ve spoken openly about the UK’s construction skills shortage, highlighting an ageing workforce and outdated perceptions as major contributors. At Bateman Groundworks, we believe apprenticeships are a viable, future-focused solution.
They give talented people a chance to make an impact from the start – bringing energy, new ideas and modern thinking. In fact, our previous apprentice cohorts have helped us adopt digital construction techniques and made a genuine difference across the business.
With 10 more apprenticeships in the pipeline, we’re committed to making construction more inclusive, more visible, and more appealing – and we couldn’t be prouder of Jasmin and James for leading the way.
Each year, our team joins the joyful foam-filled fun of Norwich Bubble Rush – all to help raise vital funds for EACH. Here’s why this incredible event means so much to us, seven years on.
This April, Andy Olby, Bateman Groundworks SHE Manager and former Royal Anglian Regiment soldier is taking on a demanding challenge. He’s cycling from Land’s End to John O'Groats to support the Royal Anglian Charity, which aids members of his former regiment and their families.
